Kenya

Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya (is a country in East Africa. At 580,367 square kilometers (224,081 sq. mi), Kenya is the world’s 48th largest country by area. With a population of more than 47.6 million in the 2019 census, Kenya is the 27th most populous country in the world Kenya’s capital and largest city is Nairobi, while it’s oldest, currently second largest city, and first capital is the coastal city of Mombasa. Kisumu City is the third-largest city and also an inland port on Lake Victoria. Other important urban centers include Nauru and Eldoret. As of 2020, Kenya is the third-largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa after Nigeria and South Africa. Kenya is bordered by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south, and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. Its geography, climate and population vary widely, ranging from cold snow-capped mountaintops (Batian, Nelion and Point Lenana on Mount Kenya) with vast surrounding forests, wildlife and fertile agricultural regions to temperate climates in western and rift valley counties and dry less fertile arid and semi-arid areas and absolute deserts (Chalbi Desert and Nyiri Desert).

African safari with Hike Nature Safaris

At 580,367 km2 (224,081 sq. mi), Kenya is the world’s 47th-largest country (after Madagascar). It lies between latitudes 5°N and 5°S, and longitudes 34° and 42°E. From the coast on the Indian Ocean, the low plains rise to central highlands. The highlands are bisected by the Great Rift Valley, with a fertile plateau to the east.

The Kenyan Highlands are one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. The highlands are the site of the highest point in Kenya and the second highest peak on the continent: Mount Kenya, which reaches a height of 5,199 m (17,057 ft.) and is the site of glaciers. Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m or 19,341 ft.) can be seen from Kenya to the south of the Tanzanian border.

At the heart of Kenya’s appeal is its wildlife. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is world-renowned for the Great Migration, where over a million wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River in dramatic fashion, pursued by crocodiles and big cats. Game drives here offer close encounters with the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—against a backdrop of sweeping savannahs.

Beyond the Mara, Amboseli National Park offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, while Lake Nakuru shimmers with pink flamingos and endangered rhinos. Tsavo East and West, among Kenya’s largest parks, provide raw, untamed wilderness with fewer crowds.

But Kenya is more than a safari—it’s a cultural journey. Spend time with the Maasai, Samburu, or Turkana communities, learning about their traditions, songs, and way of life. In Nairobi, explore bustling markets, local art, and conservation centers like the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.

At Ekibungo  Tour and safaris  , we believe travel should benefit people and the planet. Our Kenya tours are rooted in sustainability, working closely with local communities and conservation projects to ensure that your journey leaves a positive impact.
