Chimpanzee Tracking, Primate Encounters & Rainforest Adventures in Kibale National Park
Tucked away in western Uganda, near the town of Fort Portal, Kibale National Park is celebrated as the best destination in East Africa to see chimpanzees in the wild. Spanning more than 760 square kilometers, this lush tropical rainforest is not only scenic but also incredibly biodiverse — home to 13 species of primates, making it one of the most primate-rich habitats on the continent.
Above all, the park is renowned for its chimpanzee tracking experience. Accompanied by expert guides, visitors trek through the dense forest in search of habituated chimpanzee groups. Remarkably, sightings are almost guaranteed, with a success rate of over 90%. These close-up encounters with our closest relatives are not only exciting but often deeply moving.
Moreover, Kibale offers far more than chimpanzees. The forest teems with other fascinating primates, including red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons, and nocturnal bush babies — all of which contribute to an unforgettable wildlife experience.
Whether you’re an avid birder, nature lover, or wildlife enthusiast, Kibale’s tranquil trails, birdsong-filled canopy, and community-guided activities ensure a deeply enriching journey into Uganda’s rainforest heart.
